Clean Water for West Africa: Boreholes & Manual Pumps
At Abba Cares Foundation, we believe every person deserves access to clean, safe drinking water. Yet in many rural communities across West Africa, families still walk for miles each day to collect water from contaminated rivers, ponds, or shallow wells. This daily struggle leads to preventable diseases, lost education, and lost opportunities.
That is why we are raising funds to drill boreholes and install reliable manual hand pumps in villages that currently have no access to clean water.
About the project

How It Works
We will work directly with local communities to identify the best drilling sites, then install deep boreholes equipped with durable manual hand pumps. These simple, long-lasting systems require no electricity or fuel and can serve 200–500 people every day.
When a village receives a borehole and hand pump, everything changes:
One borehole doesn’t just provide water — it restores dignity, health, and hope to an entire village.
Impact
When a village receives a borehole and hand pump, everything changes:j
Health improves dramatically — Waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea drop sharply, especially among children.
Women and girls gain precious time — Instead of spending 4–6 hours a day fetching water, they can attend school, start small businesses, or care for their families.
Children stay healthier and attend school more regularly — Clean water means fewer sick days and brighter futures.
Communities grow stronger — Reliable water supports vegetable gardens, livestock, and small-scale farming, helping families break the cycle of poverty.
One borehole doesn’t just provide water — it restores dignity, health, and hope to an entire village.
What Does It Cost?
The average cost to drill a borehole and install a high-quality manual hand pump in West Africa is approximately $8,000 – $12,000 USD per community well.
This price includes:
Hydrogeological survey and site selection
Professional drilling and casing
Installation of a robust manual pump
Community training on maintenance and hygiene
Basic protection and signage
